According to the World Health Organization, mental health is “a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community”.
Let us see what nature has given us to help with memory booster and keep us mentally healthy. When it comes to herbs, there is one that stands out. Brahmi oil extract or Bacopa monnieri, the best that nature has to offer as herbal supplements for memory, depression help.
Among all herbs available to help with memory, Brahmi or Bacopa is the first one to think. It has a few beautiful synonyms.
In Indian mythology, Brahmi also called Bacopa means the herb created by the lord that created this world. Brahmi plant has leaves that help as a memory booster and intellectuality and it grows near water.
The importance and greatness of Bacopa is well documented. It is the best supplement memory booster, for depression, ADHD, that one could look for in a maze of herbal supplements.
As per ancient information, Brahmi or Bacopa has many medical and therapeutic properties such as help as memory booster, mental impairment, loss of appetite, epilepsy, fevers etc.
The most admiring property about which I have studied over one decade is Bacopa’s role in mental disorders and on improving cognitive function.
I use Bacopa oil or as a paste or as powder. At 2-5 gms per day of paste or 300mg of extract per day as pills, is what I give to my patients. The main indications that I focus on are, learning disabilities in children, anxiety neurosis, chronic neuropsychiatric disorders such as epilepsy, tensions, headaches and depressive neurosis. The ultimate finding is that Brahmi oil, pills or Bacopa extracts are a gold mine for neuro and psychiatric disorders. Bacopa is the best of the herbal supplements that acts as a memory booster.
For stress or Anxiety, a daily dose of 2-5 ml of Brahmi oil, 2-5 gms of paste or 300mg as pills or supplements would do miracles. I adjust dosage to my patients based on the intensity of the memory problems. My observations revealed that Bacopa monnieri boosts intellectual capacity by analyzing the mind, and relieving the underlying pathology.
In conclusion, as an Ayurvedic Doctor, I would say Bacopa or Brahmi oil or as a supplement, when taken daily, would be an excellent choice for all people concerned about memory loss and depression. The US National Institute of Health has also studies posted on its site. I advise all to read them.
