This article talks about Camphor oil uses and benefits especially for relief of muscle and joint pains when used as a topical application. Camphor Oil uses include helping alleviate Muscle, Joints pain in a natural, herbal way.

 

Pain can be defined as follows :

A state of physical, emotional or mental lack of well being,

Mental uneasiness that ranges from mild discomfort, dull distress to acute often unbearable agony which may be    generalized or localized and is the consequence  of being injured or hurt physically or mentally.

Lack of equilibrium in the physical or mental function (as through diseases)

Pain can affect your appetite, sleep and energy levels i.e. ability to do things. Pain can also affect the mood and relationships with other people. Muscle and Joint pains are the most common and there are herbal alternatives to people.

In Rheumatism, joint pain is the main symptom. Most backaches, sprains and injury related pains, inflammation could be the main cause. Inflammation means a local response to cellular injury that is marked by capillary dilatation, redness, pain and swelling. One of the uses of Camphor Oil is to help reduce inflammation.

Camphor oil uses as a pain reliever -

Camphor oil can be used topically pain relief. It gets absorbed through the skin, creating a cooling effect that acts as a mild local anesthetic. Camphor oil can be used externally to relieve Arthritic and Rheumatic pain, backaches, sprains etc. Camphor is a waxy, white or transparent solid substance with a strong aromatic smell. Camphor oil is readily absorbed through skin and produces a feeling of cooling similar to that of menthol.

Camphor or Kapoor is a resin obtained from the camphor tree. It is derived from the wood of Cinnamomum Camphora tree. This tree is found in Asia, generally  cultivated in India, Egypt, Southern Europe and California.

Camphor oil uses: Joint pain, Backaches, Neuralgia, Rheumatic pain, can be treated with Camphor externally. It is an herbal counter-irritant and most often used as an analgesic for topical treatment. Camphor oil can act as an analgesic too. The physical pain associated with external bruises or sprains along with severe inflammation can be treated with Camphor oil. The main chemical constituents of the volatile oil in Camphor are a mixture of the compound Safrole, compound Eugenol, and Terpineol. Camphor oil uses include, acting as an herbal irritant and antiseptic due to the action of its volatile oil. In vitro studies were done to determine the  anti-inflammatory & antioxidative effects of Cinnamomum Camphora extracts.( Some aspects of the results are listed below).

Cinnamomum Camphora inhibits pro-inflammatory cytokines produced by LPS stimulation (LPS-lipopolysaccharide).

Camphor is used as a healing agent and forms an ingredient of most well known Ayurvedic oils. It has also been applied topically as an analgesic . It increases local blood flow. Ref: Camphor Monograph from Natural medicines comprehensive database.

Poor circulation traps stagnant intracellular fluids in the joints and decreases the availability of nutrients needed for repair and  growth of healthy tissues. This can be aided by application of herbal Camphor oil. Gentle massage of this type of oil provides soothing relief. One mechanism of action of Camphor is that it specifically inhibits Catecholamine secretion or any of various substances (as Epinephrine, Norepinephrine and Dopamine) that contain a benzene ring with two adjacent functions of hormones or neurotransmitters or both . Externally Camphor oil acts as an anodyne.

Camphor based oils are known to relieve pains related to joints, Arthritis, sciatica, sprain, backache etc. These oils are potent and have a higher efficacy to give relief in painful muscular-skeletal condition like lumbago, muscle trauma, sciatica, sprain, stiffness, swelling, pain and inflammation of joints.
