Elephant Vine or Argyreia Nervosa is commonly known as Silver morning climber. In India it is known as Vidhara. It is best known for imparting sexual stamina, sexual desire, libido, and is a natural aphrodisiac. The plant is a very large woody climber and contains many ergoline alkaloids. Researchers have proved that the root and flowers of Argyreia Nervosa are safe and effective in stimulating sexual desire and stamina. We will also discuss in this article about various herbal supplements.
Aphrodisiacs are defined as those which arouse the sexual instinct, induce desire and increase pleasure and performance. This word is derived from Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess of love. These substances are derived from plants, animals or minerals and since time they have been the passion of mankind.
According to classical Ayurvedic texts, Elephant Vine helps delay vardhakya or old age and keeps one young by strengthening the body. It is an appetizer and improves digestion and also increases sexual vigor, libido. It acts as an alterative and tonic. It is also useful in stress and nervous disorders. Ref. The plant Argyreia Nervosa has aphrodisiac properties. The root, flowers and to some extent, leaves (homogenate in 2% gum acacia) of the plant showed aphrodisiac activity as evidenced by an increase in mounting behavior of mice.Ref: J. As per Ayurveda, Argyreia Nervosa acts as a Vatkaphshamak, Shukravardhat, Vrsya, Balya, Rasayan and Medhya.
