Nature has many a regulatory mechanism among which self-destruction is one to maintain equilibrium in population growth. Such mechanisms in the nature exert enormous impact in different fashions on living organisms and are tuned according to the way they live and adapt. One such mechanism is oxygenated free radicals which initiates continue phagocytosis or destruction of the body tissues at cellular level. However, cells generally develop a comprehensive array of anti-oxidant defenses to prevent the free radical formation or to limit their cell damage. This is a continuous process and as one ages, our defense mechanisms loose the battle to free radicals and ultimately the cell death occurs in different forms of diseases, with which one slowly progresses to death.

The concept of revitalizing the human body at cellular level was originally initiated in ancient India through a process called RASAYANA, which is to keep all the body tissues fit enough to fight against self-destructive mechanisms. Later on, these types of practices lost the importance due to modernization and by advanced civilization. When modern science discovered the oxygenated free radicals, we were forced to invent the free radicals scavenging tools among which dietary supplements took first place. The concept of organic free radicals was fist postulated by Gomberg in 1900, later in 1966 Prof. P.F.Slater documented the hepatotoxicity of carbon tetrachloride was due to oxygenated free radicals. This started a boom and focus has been started in the scientific world on free radicals. The unfortunate thing was to establishing the involvement of free radicals in the pathogenesis of a disease was extremely difficult due to their short life span. Antioxidants are substances that scavenge free radical damaging compounds in the body that alter cells, tamper with DNA and even cause cell death. Free radicals occur naturally in the body, but environmental toxins including ultraviolet rays from the sun, radiation, cigarette smoke, and air pollution also give rise to these damaging particles.
In my opinion the use of Green Tea should generally enhance health and well being and prevent free radicals damage to the humaa body. This should be generally available in herbal supplements form.
