The root of the plant Nardostachys or Spikenard resemble the tangled hair of an ascetic in India, hence the plant is named Jatamansi. The root and rhizome are used. It is used in India as an antiepileptic, hypotensive, analgesic, and antiemetic, antispasmodic, diuretic, anti anxiety herb and for stress relief.
