In Ayurveda, certain herbs that have “Rasayana” property have been mentioned. These herbs, improve the function of body systems, boost immunity and thus help to maintain healthy skin naturally. One such herb is Turmeric Curcumin or Curcuma Longa or Haldi as it is called in India.
Turmeric for Acne and Pimples of the skin-
Turmeric strengthens all the tissues in the body. It helps to purify the vitiated blood (Impure or inefficient). This vitiated blood is responsible for skin problems. Turmeric not only gives skin a fair complexion but it also nourishes and rejuvenates it.
Acne, Pimples are disorders of skin caused by inflammation of skin glands and hair follicles. This skin condition is mostly common in young adults and a typical eruption is found mainly on the face, neck, upper chest and the back. It is due to inflammation of sebaceous glands which open into hair follicles. Sebaceous Gland is any of a small sacculated glands lodged in the substance of the derma or skin. These glands usually open into hair follicles, and secrete oily or greasy material composed mostly of fat. This fat generally is useful to soften and lubricate the skin. When the follicles gets clogged, Acne and, or Pimples occur. Pimples are small inflamed elevations of the skin. Several pimples occurring together form Acne. Acne affects the skin’s oil glands and produces scars on the skin and is responsible for a lot of stress and mental agony in teenagers.
So to maintain healthy skin or to overcome aforesaid problems of acne naturally, the use of herb Turmeric is essential. Research and various studies show that it also has anti-bacterial properties that can help in treating skin conditions or problems.
“Curcumin’ is the active ingredient of “Turmeric”. It is a Phenolic compound. It has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Many animal studies have investigated the anti-inflammatory effects of Curcumin. As an antioxidant, Curcumin protects the living body from the deleterious effects of free radicals, which are known to damage cells in human body.
