What is Bitter Melon ? The ancient science of Ayurveda has given the world great herbs and vegetables, some of which possess both medicinal, as well as dietary values. One among them is Bitter Gourd or Bitter Melon or Momordica Charantia.

Not only the Bitter Melon plant, many other plants or herbs that belong to Cucurbitaceae family possess many medicinal values. Ayurveda utilizes Bitter Melon benefits include its use as a dietary item incorporating its usefulness as a good food source. The traditional way Ayurvedic practitioners recommend using this, is to boil the Bitter Melon fruits in buttermilk; dry the contents in shade; when the extract is completely dry for a few days, make it into a fine powder and consume it on a daily basis. This technique, worked for many of my patients and they had insulin dose reduction for diabetes. This also helped with diabetic gastropathy, chronic non-ulcer dyspepsia, loss of appetite, etc. I found that Bitter melon powder, to be helpful in sub-clinical Hypothyroidism for which there is no ideal remedy in conventional medicine. Bitter Melon benefits include the fact that it is rich in iodine. This is a good product for blood sugar support.
